Yesterday I went to the thrift store next to my office (my office lives in a magical space that is somehow in the middle of a bus station, a Taco Bell, a chili dog place, a Cross Roads Trading Co., a thrift store and a record store) because I just got paid and I need some clothes for fall. I’m a delightfully thrifty lady (aka p-double-o-r) and while I’ve found some great clothes at the store, I didn’t find any yesterday. I was about to leave when a little voice inside of me said “Hey, let’s check out the books!”. Of course, I said no because I have a lot of books that I don’t read. But I went over anyway because the voice just wouldn’t shut up; I’m glad I did because I found the Dolly Parton autobiography for $3!!! SCORE.

I read it all last night. It’s not the most up-to-date thing out there but it’s still pretty funny. As I get older I’m realizing that there are two versions of most people- the public and the private. For most people the gap isn’t too big; for others, it’s miles deep. No one is really an open book, no matter how much they might proclaim they are. There is always an appendix or an epilogue hidden somewhere.

For awhile, I tried to be one of those open book people but it was hard. I gave and no one else did. I shared secrets and people shared them all over the place. I wasn’t expecting hard-hitting self reflection from Dolly so I wasn’t upset when I got a lukewarm version of it. Probably when you’re that famous, you’re not eager to share a secret about yourself that hasn’t been rehashed every day since the 70′s; it’s just easier to recycle the same bon mots. How . . . sad.

Wow. this post is all over the place. Sorry.

Writing: I got a lot of it done today!!! It’s faster for me to type than write longhand but I don’t want to write a word on my work computer. I figured that I can type pretty fast on my iPod so I’ve started working out scenes on there. So if you know me from work and you see me running into the ladies, know that I’m hogging the good stall because I just have to get this dialogue finished.

I also broke down and told Jack about my story. He did not laugh at me or dismiss my ideas which is the polar opposite of other guys I’ve been with. How refreshing :)

He talked me through a huge plot point that I’m still not 100% sure how to resolve but I think if we keep putting our nerdy heads together, we’ll figure it out. Of course, I did promise to cut him a % if I ever get published so maybe he’s only being nice for the money.

ALSO: I have a new page, “facts”, I’m going to keep updating this on a basis (maybe regular). wooty-woooo!
